Job Description:
About the Internship

This paid, part-time internship with the Learning Department of the New York Small Business Development Center is designed to provide the student with experience in planning, coordinating, and tracking data on internal professional development opportunities for NYSBDC staff members and external business educational programming for potential, current, and past clients of the NYSBDC statewide. The intern may also assist in educational product development. This work will be performed under the direction of the Coordinator of Learning and Organizational Development from the NYSBDC's Central Office.

About the NYSBDC

The NYSBDC is a network of 20 campus-based centers located across NY State, along with a central office based in Albany. The NYSBDC provides no-cost, high-quality business advising, research, and advocacy services, as well as free and at-cost business education. These services, made possible by funding from the SBA, New York State, and host academic institutions, are offered to the public on a non-discriminatory basis.

About the Learning Department

The NYSBDC Central Office Learning Department provides both internal and external business educational event opportunities. Internal offerings consist of staff professional development webinars and training sessions at the NYSBDC's annual in-person conference. External offerings are business-related webinars open to current and future small business owners and entrepreneurs across New York State. The NYSBDC Central Office Learning Department also creates internal and external educational products.

Job Duties:

This Learning Department internship is designed to give the intern experience in real-world business education programming competencies. It may also extend into business education product development competencies. The intern will, therefore, assist the Coordinator of Learning and Organizational Development in a variety of tasks related to the following.

Business Education Programming Competencies Addressed in this Internship
  • Identify educational needs for target groups (NY's small business owners, NYSBDC staff) by analyzing available data (survey data, current business trends, etc.)
  • Locate appropriate presenters (internal, external, partner organizations) to address identified needs
  • Coordinate event logistics with presenters and involved partners
  • Produce a calendar of educational offerings based on business learning needs and presenter relationships
  • Create all necessary supporting materials to deliver and market the scheduled programming through the NYSBDC's established tools and communication channels
  • Host and moderate scheduled educational events
  • Organize post-event recordings and resources for distribution
  • Collect post-event data for continued analysis and reporting

Business Education Product Development Competencies Possibly Addressed in this Internship
  • Analyze available data to define instructional and performance goals and identify learning and performance gaps
  • Design product plans to match learner and stakeholder needs
  • Develop the necessary educational product
  • Implement distribution channels for the educational product
  • Evaluate whether the educational product meets the goals and closes the gaps previously defined and identify needed improvements

    Requirements:

    A successful candidate for this position must be comfortable with technology and learning new software since this position requires the use of several tools, like the following:

    Pay Rate for this position will be $20.00 an hour
